HARMAN’s JBL Professional Introduces VRX Line Array Calculator at Winter NAMM 2014

ANAHEIM, California – HARMAN’s JBL Professional is announcing the VRX Line Array Calculator (LAC) for its popular and widely used VRX Constant Curvature Series loudspeakers. The VRX LAC offers an accurate and easy-to-learn design tool that allows configuration of VRX systems prior to deployment.

“Since JBL introduced the first VRX loudspeakers, they have been used in virtually every imaginable environment, from theaters to houses of worship, sports facilities to schools, as portable or permanent sound reinforcement systems,” said Jon Sager, Senior Manager, Market Development, Installed Sound, JBL Professional. “The VRX Line Array Calculator will provide an effective sound design and simulation tool that builds on the successful heritage of JBL’s VTX and VERTEC® Line Array Calculator software.”

With the VRX LAC, up to four audience planes can be modeled. Adding ground-level seating, multiple balconies, stage areas and rear wall boundaries is simple. In addition, quick calculation of optimal array angles and gain shading offers smooth front to rear audience coverage. Visual display of rigging details on a separate “Array Configuration” page shows size, weight, and rigging parameters with built-in working load limit (WLL) design factor safety warnings.

The VRX LAC also enables two separate arrays to be used simultaneously. Adding a second rear delay array with the proper angles and relative volume is now easily accomplished. Moreover, ground-supported stand mount and subwoofer stacked arrays can be modeled just as they are used with the VRX products. Dual angle pole mount socket selectors show down tilt angles for increased aiming flexibility, while single point hang array angles can now be easily checked ahead of time.

The VRX LAC includes a quick start help file that can get any VRX user up to speed and using the VRX LAC in under an hour. VRX User Guides (for both passive and powered systems) are bundled with the VRX LAC for quick reference to specific questions that may come up when using VRX loudspeakers.

HARMAN’s DigiTech Debuts Its Live Harmony Vocal Harmony Processor for Live Performance

ANAHEIM, California – HARMAN’s DigiTech today announced the introduction of its Live Harmony, a vocal harmony processor that automatically provides guitarists with a wide range of harmonies and effects. Designed specifically for live performance, Live Harmony uses “intelligent” processing to create full, natural sounding three-part harmonies that perfectly track the chords the performer is playing.

“Live Harmony is ideal for solo artists who want to add an extra vocal dimension to their sound and bands who’d like to add richness and depth to their singing,” said Scott Klimt, marketing manager, DigiTech. “It’s also a great way to add vocal harmonies to studio recordings.”

Live Harmony is easy to use – simply plug in an electric or acoustic/electric guitar and a microphone, start playing and singing and Live Harmony will take care of the rest. Using HARMAN’s patented musIQ® technology developed by DigiTech, the unit will sense the chords being played and add vocal harmonies in the right key. Performers can even sing a sustained note and when they strum a different chord behind it, Live Harmony will change the accompanying background harmonies.

Live Harmony utilizes DigiTech’s Live Adapt processing, which matches harmonies and effects like delay to the song’s tempo, key, scale and Anti Feedback Suppression ensures vocal levels won’t get out of control in tricky venues.

A full selection of effects is provided including Lexicon® reverb, dbx® compression, intelligent pitch correction, doubling and 198 presets. The Gold Channel feature allows the performer to engage a pre-set “channel strip” at the touch of a button so they can sound great in an instant. The unit’s Sound Check button will repeat phrases, to let users test the settings of their presets for the acoustics of the room they’re playing in. The Set List function allows a performer to quickly rearrange their presets in any order in the event they want to change the order of the songs in their set.

Live Harmony provides a host of additional useful features including an up to 70-second vocal phrase looper with unlimited overdubs, male/female gender effects, an anti-feedback button and automatic feedback suppression with 12 filters, a built-in guitar tuner and more. Live Harmony offers XLR mic,1/4-inch guitar, 1/8-inch aux in and 1/4-inch expression pedal/footswitch inputs and two XLR mic, 1/4-inch line out and 1/4-inch guitar outputs.

The DigiTech Live Harmony live performance vocal harmony processor will be available in March 2014 at an MSRP of $409.95.

Expand Your Music with HARMAN’s DigiTech Supernatural Ambient Reverb Pedal

ANAHEIM, California – At NAMM 2014 HARMAN’s DigiTech is showcasing its Supernatural Ambient Reverb, offering seven studio-quality reverbs in a compact, easy to use pedal. From subtle sonic enhancement to lush reverb-plus-modulation effects, the Supernatural Ambient Reverb delivers an extraordinary selection of rich, ambient sounds.

The Supernatural Ambient Reverb provides guitarists and musicians with a wide palette of reverb modes including Spring, Plate, Plate Mod, Shimmer, Supernova, Shine and Pherb. The pedal can be used in stereo or mono.

“While most reverb pedals give players a choice of one or two reverb types, the Supernatural Ambient Reverb offers a broad variety of sounds and effects to enhance any instrument in both live and studio settings,” said Scott Klimt, marketing manager DigiTech. “We designed the Supernatural to be nothing less than the best-sounding, most versatile reverb pedal available.”

For classic reverb enthusiasts, the Spring setting provides the most accurate reproduction of the lively sound of the spring reverb units used in classic and contemporary amplifiers (which run the signal through actual springs housed in a metal pan), exemplified in the surf music records of the early ‘60s and heard on thousands of recordings and live performances since. Plate delivers the sound of the vintage ‘60s studio units that fed the signal through large metal plates to get a uniquely complex reverb sound available by no other means – and still highly prized today. Plate Mod adds a layer of chorus to the effect.

Shimmer is an upward cascading reverb that morphs into ethereal octave shifts. Shine provides thick reverb with lush chorus and a hint of pitch shifting. Supernova is an expansive reverb with spaced-out flanging and pitch shifting. Rounding out the effects selection, Pherb delivers the distinctive Lexicon® Hall reverb flavored with a taste of phasing.

The Supernatural makes it easy to tweak any of the reverbs to perfection. The Mix knob blends the dry to effected signal in any proportion from 0 to 100 percent. The Liveliness control adjusts the amount of high-frequency response and the Delay knob adjusts the length of the reverb duration. A Tails On/Off switch located below the footswitch gives a choice of having the notes reverberate naturally after the effect is turned off, or shutting off the effect immediately after stepping on the footswitch. Two input and two output jacks give players the option of stereo or mono operation. Adding to its usability, the Supernatural comes with DigiTech’s hard rubber Stomplock™ attachments that fit over the controls to keep the player’s settings in place.

The DigiTech Supernatural Ambient Reverb will be available in March 2014 at a suggested retail price of $249.95.

The Si Performer features two Option Card slots available for ViSi Connect Expansion cards, 80 inputs to mix, Soundcraft's patented FaderGlow™ and Channel Displays for instant mix status, plus the DMX interface and control (which allows simultaneous control of light and sound)…all of which is available in a single 19-inch rackmount console.

This is in addition to the already standard filters, gates, compressors and delays on all inputs and compressors and delays on all outputs, which when calculated delivers the equivalent of over 448 rack units of processing in a tiny footprint. Unlike many other digital consoles at this price point, all this processing is fully available all of the time, there are no compromises on the amount of DSP in use.

In addition, the Si Performer offers Soundcraft FaderGlow, which allows faders to be color-coded via an LED strip alongside the fader to indicate its function or channel identification. The Si Performer 1 also features eight VCA groups and eight mute groups for easier control over Si Performer 1’s 80 inputs and 35 busses. Each channel on the surface features a custom LCD screen to show identifications such as channel name, assignments, graphic EQ frequencies and DMX data, plus signal metering. HARMAN’s JBL Professional LSR310S Powered Studio Subwoofer With XLF Rounds Out Winning 3 Series Studio Monitor Line

ANAHEIM, California – Bringing extended low-frequency performance to music recording and post-production clients, HARMAN’s JBL Professional today introduced the new LSR310S powered studio subwoofer optimized for use with the highly successful JBL 3 Series studio monitors. The first studio monitors to incorporate JBL’s patent-pending Image Control Waveguide, the recently introduced 3 Series models provide an unprecedented level of accuracy, with exceptional imaging and detail at most affordable price points. Rounding out the 3 Series line, the new LSR310S subwoofer extends the low-frequency response of the system into the 20 Hz range while including an innovative feature that will make the sub attractive to dance music producers.

Driven by an integrated 200 Watt Class D power amplifier, a new 10-inch high excursion woofer works in concert with JBL’s patented Slip Stream Port™, delivering impressive low-frequency response below 27 Hz, with peak output of 113 dB SPL. Exceptional performance in a compact form-factor make the LSR310S the ideal choice for use in music recording and playback reference systems, and also as the “.1” LFE Low Frequency Effects speaker in surround-sound post production applications. Developed with dance music producers in mind, the sub includes a selectable XLF Extended Low Frequency setting that emulates the augmented low frequency response heard in the dance club environment. This provides a useful reference of how a dance mix will sound in the outside world.

Designed to integrate into a broad range of applications the LSR310S features balanced XLR and ¼” inputs, a selectable input sensitivity switch and three crossover settings: 80Hz, XLF and External. The 80 Hz setting implements high and low pass filters to create a seamless blend of the LSR310S with JBL’s LSR305 or LSR308 studio monitors or models from other manufacturers. The external setting bypasses all filtering, allowing use of an external crossover. The special XLF setting activates a 120Hz High Pass Filter in conjunction with a low frequency tuning that approximates the tuning used in club playback systems. Using this setting, the bass output more than doubles and the newly developed woofer/amp combination with protective limiting allow the 310S to produce extended bass output continuously without failure.

The LSR310S joins JBL’s exciting 3 Series Powered Studio Monitors, which are capturing rave reviews for their exceptional performance and value. “With the addition of the LSR310S Sub, we are able to offer a complete full range system with impressive detail, accuracy and low frequency performance at a price within reach of any studio,” said Peter Chaikin, Senior Manager Recording and Broadcast Marketing, JBL Professional. “The new XLF setting will be a welcome ‘plus’ for producers of hip-hop and dance music, conveniently bringing the sound of the club to the control room,” Chaikin added.

The LSR310S striking appearance is highlighted by a distinctive glossy black flange of the front-mounted Slip Stream™ Port. The handsome compact black enclosure is designed to fit neatly into small recording and post production studio environments.

“The 3 Series Studio Monitor line is the result of close collaboration with the production community and our retail partners and our commitment to the needs and trends of the market. The new LSR310S leverages JBL’s market leading transducer and acoustic technologies to provide an unusual level of performance and value.” Chaikin concluded The LSR310S will ship in January 2014 with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $499.00. HARMAN’s JBL Professional EON600 Series Brings Studio Monitor Sound to Portable PA Loudspeakers

ANAHEIM, California – At Winter NAMM 2013, HARMAN’s JBL Professional is announcing the latest addition to its legendary EON portable loudspeakers with the new EON600 Series. A complete departure from traditional approaches to affordable, self-contained and portable PA systems, the EON600 Series was purposely designed and built from the ground up using JBL’s advanced waveguide technology and proprietary transducers. The EON600 Series brings the extraordinary quality of high-end studio monitors to a highly flexible, easy-to-use PA system.

“We’ve found a way to deliver studio monitor quality sound in a portable PA system, which is only possible by leveraging JBL’s revolutionary innovations in waveguide and transducer development,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, JBL Professional. “The striking design of the EON600 is a logical extension of the groundbreaking EON format, applying the latest technologies in cabinet materials, acoustic science, transducer design and user-friendliness.”

The first model in the EON600 Series is the EON615 15-inch 2-way loudspeaker. It features built-in, 1000-watt power amplification, providing exceptional headroom for a variety of applications, from fixed PA to gigging bands. Custom JBL high- and low-frequency transducers deliver massive sound pressure levels with lower distortion throughout the frequency range.

The foundation of the EON615's performance is a breakthrough approach to waveguide design, solving the inherent beaminess of conventional speaker systems that causes them to have a different frequency response off-axis than on-axis. JBL engineers examined the radiation characteristics of the EON's high- and low-frequency drivers at 36 different points employing JBL's exclusive, state-of-the-art measurement techniques, then designed individual waveguides for both components that control the sound radiation at the high frequencies, the crossover point, and at the low frequencies.

Special fluting is designed into the structure that guides the frequencies through the full range of the system, resulting in consistent response throughout its 90-degree coverage pattern. The quality and consistency between on-axis and off-axis response delivers uniform coverage and high intelligibility, which means the EON615's smooth, transparent sound is the same for the entire audience. These characteristics are the foundation of high-end studio monitor sound and are now available for the first time in a portable, affordable system.

Knowing that fine-tuning sound requires sophisticated yet convenient control, JBL engineers developed an iOS and Android supported interface to be paired with the Bluetooth Smart Ready 4.0 for controlling master volume, adjusting the 5-way, user-definable parametric EQ, and saving and recalling user presets. The interface controls EON’s onboard best-in-class 32-bit, 130 mHz, ultra-low power, audio DSP subsystem, so it's fast and efficient with superb audio quality. Four strategically placed handles allow easy handling, indexed feet allow secure stacking, transportation and storage, and extra-strong enclosures ensure rugged reliability, a hallmark of all JBL products.
