Renowned Audio Engineer Dave Natale Finds the Right Reverb With HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – As one of the top audio engineers in the business, Dave Natale has been the front-of-house engineer for a who’s who of artists, including Yes, Olivia Newton-John, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Lionel Richie and many more. He currently mixes shows for The Rolling Stones, but when he’s not on the road you can find him at Right Coast Recording, which he established in 1990. One of the factors that’s made it one of the oldest and well-equipped recording studios in central Pennsylvania is Natale’s commitment to making sure that nothing goes into Right Coast unless it sounds right. The most recent component to pass Natale’s rigorous test is HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle, which he recently selected as his reverb software.

“I’ve relied on Lexicon since my days in the early 1980s working for Clair Brothers Audio on a Yes, Tour” said Natale. “We must have been one of the first sound companies to use the Lexicon 224, Lexicon’s first digital reverb that became an industry classic. I memorized the manual.”

Since then, Natale has gone from the 224 to other equally revered Lexicon hardware offerings, such as the 200, 480L and the PCM80, 81, 90 and 91, which he still uses today on tour with The Rolling Stones with Clair Global.

Natale is impressed with Lexicon’s move from hardware to software-based reverb processing. “To my ears, because of the quality and consistency of their algorithms and the sounds they’ve delivered, they’ve made the leap with complete success,” he said.

Natale’s appreciation of the Lexicon components is based on his in-depth understanding of the complexity of reverb. “I think what impresses me the most about Lexicon is the fact that reverb is the hardest thing to model and get to sound right,” he said. “There are too many parameters. When you think about how complex real-life reverb is, with all its variables and decay characteristics, you start to realize how hard it is to make really great-sounding reverb units.”

Needless to say Natale had high expectations when he decided he needed to hear the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle. He said that while there’s nothing like the sound of Lexicon hardware processors, it’s hard to beat the convenience of software plug-ins. “Now that I’ve had a chance to work with the PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle I can tell you that it’s equally impressive and I’m hearing the same quality as I’m used to from the hardware,” he said. “We have been using a 224 and a PCM 70 at Right Coast and I’ve worked with many other Lexicon processors, and the Plug-In Bundle absolutely meets the level of quality I’m looking for.”

Bobby Gentilo, engineer at Right Coast Recording and manager of the studio’s day-to-day operations also considers Lexicon an essential sonic tool. “I trust Lexicon,” he said. “The reverb we’ve always relied on in the hardware has translated nicely to the software in recent years. We work with a variety of artists including some with very critical ears who aren’t shy about telling you what they do and do not like. Lexicon reverbs always pass the test with our clients.”

“Dave is not only one of the most talented audio engineers out there today, he is also one of the great people in our industry,” stated Jason Kunz, Market Manager, Portable PA and Recording & Broadcast for HARMAN Signal Processing. “ It’s a great feeling to knowing that whether he is out on the road with some of the biggest names in music or in his own studio, Lexicon is an integral part of his work.”

HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle Is a Reel Help for Film Music Editor Stephen Lotwis

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Stephen Lotwis is one of Hollywood’s busiest music editors, helping filmmakers and directors choose exactly the right music or song the film. His credits include more than 40 major movies and he currently works at Warner Brother’s 2 POP Music, a full service music editorial company. Lotwis takes care of the technical aspects of the soundtrack, documents and manages all related activities, supervises the recording of the original music and oversees the mixing and dubbing sessions where the music, dialog and sound effects all come together to create the finished movie soundtrack. Every music cue has to be exactly right. In particular, the quality of the reverb can make or break the sonic ambience of a scene – which is why Lotwis relies on HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle to help set the sonic mood.

Lotwis has been using Lexicon since 1984 and first started working with classic Lexicon products like the PCM 60, PCM 70, 224XL, 480L, LXP-1 and LXP-5 when studying at the Berklee College of Music. After graduation, Lotwis performed as a professional musician, started his own production studio, produced independent records for Boston-area artists and taught music at Harvard University – all the while gaining experience with Lexicon up to his current use of the PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle. When it came time to go Hollywood, Lexicon followed.

“I like the dense, rich texture of the Lexicon reverbs; they’re just so natural and realistic,” said Lotwis. “In particular, the decay of the reverb tails are flawless, and you can adjust the length of the decay to be exactly what you need when you set the scene, from a short, almost gated clip to that beautiful, lush kind of reverb tail that seems to extend forever.”

Lotwis knows that in filmmaking, the image is only half the story. The soundtrack is an equal part of creating an immersive moviegoing experience, whether it’s a whisper of dialogue, a subtle musical background or a wall-shaking action sequence. In today’s workstation-centric production environment, Lotwis finds that the PCM Native Reverb gives him not only the flavor of reverb to complement any type of music, dialog or effects – from Plate, Vintage Plate and Chamber to Hall, Room Random Hall and Concert Hall – but the ability to precisely dial in and tweak any sonic parameter, save any setting and recall it for later use. “In a fast-paced production environment where we have to constantly change cues and timings and sometimes have to make hundreds of revisions, the ability to recall any setting instantaneously is a major advantage compared to the way I had to work even a few years ago.”

“If you want to hear how good the PCM Native Reverb sounds, just listen to one of my recent or not-so-recent film projects,” he notes. “I’ve been using it for a few years now and wouldn’t think of doing a soundtrack without it.” It seems that filmmakers, directors and others would agree.

“Stephen’s reputation precedes him as one of the leading feature film music editors in Hollywood. While his work has taken him from recording to film and east coast to west coast he has developed as a professional with Lexicon as a constant throughout his career,” stated Jason Kunz, Market Manager, Portable PA and Recording & Broadcast for HARMAN Signal Processing.

HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle Is Part of the Curriculum at Audio School Online

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – GRAMMY® award-winning engineer, producer, songwriter and musician Ken Lewis founded Audio School Online (www.audioschoolonline.com) to answer a need. “It used to be that you got out of engineering school, got a studio internship and worked your way up – but now, big studios are closing and there’s limited opportunity to learn your craft in a professional environment.” In response, Lewis started Audio School Online to teach aspiring producers and engineers how to mix music and produce records. Students learn from Lewis through a series of free and affordable online lessons that teach how to use the tools of the trade – including Lewis’ go-to Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle.

Ken Lewis knows his craft. His credits include 71 platinum and gold albums and singles, 12 GRAMMY winners and 56 number one records – so far! He notes that “teaching is in my blood – my mom was one and I used to teach bass and guitar.” Before founding Audio School Online, Lewis discovered there was a lack of information online for what he thought budding producers and engineers needed to know. “My inspiration for putting this all together was to give the next wave of audio pros and artists the real-world skills and techniques to make professional recordings.”

The hardware and software Lewis uses in his lessons are the products he uses in his own studio work on a daily basis. “There isn’t a single mix where I don’t use Lexicon for the reverb,” he says. The PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle is the best reverb plug-in he’s heard. “It’s the first time a plug-in has sounded 100 percent as good as the outboard stuff.”

In a course on choosing lead vocal effects, the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle is a key element. “I use every one of the seven reverb plug-ins, all the time – Vintage Plate, Plate, Hall, Room, Random Hall, Concert Hall and Chamber.” Lewis shows students exactly why he uses the particular reverbs he does, for male and female and lead and background vocals. “I go step by step into how I manipulate all the parameters and why, and most importantly, the thought process as a mixer or a producer that goes behind what I’m teaching. Ultimately, the mood of the song dictates why I do something. With Lexicon, I can choose and fine-tune the perfect reverb to fit the mood.”

Another online lesson is called “Plugin Transformers” which emphasizes that ultimately there are no traditional ways to create new sounds. ”I used the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Plug-In Bundle to show people there are really cool sounds they can achieve they might never have thought of, that they can incorporate into their own palette. Lewis finds the plug-ins to be highly flexible in their editing capabilities, easy to shape sonically and have “tons of presets and choices for starting points.” Most importantly: “They also just sound really good.”

“My style of teaching is very hands-on,” Lewis notes. “The lessons feel like we’re sitting together one on one, not like you’re sitting at a lecture with someone talking at you. When I do a lesson if mistakes happen, fine. I teach the same techniques I use everyday on records you hear, and in a way that’s very easy to understand and duplicate on your own.”

“In audio there is no right and wrong, just what you think sounds good. You need to envision what you want and how to go about getting it. Lexicon helps me teach people to open their mind to the possibilities.”

The feedback we’ve received for Audio School Online has been tremendous so far,” Lewis concluded. “We’ve gotten deep support from pros and amateurs alike. It makes me want to do more.”

HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle Is the Go-To Reverb Plug-In for Producer, Trainer and Writer Mo Volans

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Mo Volans enjoys a multifaceted career as a producer, musician, writer and product trainer. He got his groove going when he was signed to the UK’s Global Underground and Subversive Records. For 15 years he wrote, produced and remixed records for major and independent labels, including Positiva, Hed Kandi, Skint, AATW and MOS/Data, where he first got his hands on classic HARMAN Lexicon gear like the 480L.

His electronic music production and composing skills led Volans to producing music for TV and around 2006 he was asked to write an article for Remix magazine, which launched a parallel career as a music writer. Since then he’s written countless features and currently contributes to Future Music, AskAudio and Audiotuts+.

Thanks to his thorough understanding of electronic music technology and knack for explaining it clearly, Volans has become an in-demand producer of training videos. He is now the lead trainer at MacProVideo.com and AskVideo and has produced training and promotional material for a number of major computer music platforms, including Ableton, Logic, Reason, Cubase, Maschine and BitWig. Through all his occupational diversity, his preference for Lexicon has remained constant, and it’s no surprise the tech-savvy Volans has adopted the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle plug-in package.

The Lexicon PCM Total Bundle offers a wide variety of legendary Lexicon reverbs and effects like Vintage Plate, Hall, Room, Concert Hall and other hallmark Lexicon reverbs, and effects that run the gamut from Pitch Shift, Chorus, Dual Delay and Resonant Chords to other completely unique sounds. It’s designed to work with popular DAWs like Pro Tools and Logic, as well as with any other VST, Audio Unit or RTAS-compatible platform and with Windows and Macintosh computers.

“I’ve been using Lexicon as long as I can remember,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to work with almost every model of Lexicon hardware, from flagship products like the 480L in larger studios to my more recent use of the MX and PCM reverb and effects processors in smaller facilities and my own project studios. When I had the opportunity to try the PCM Total Bundle I didn’t hesitate.” Mo quickly found it to be invaluable.

“I’ve been using the PCM Total Bundle as my go-to reverb solution literally since the day it arrived.” Mo uses the plug-in for both his own recordings and in his training courses. “When it comes to demonstrating algorithmic reverbs this is just about as good as it gets for me. If I can call something that’s used in training videos a ‘textbook example’ of something, then the Lexicon is it.”

Anyone interested in electronic dance music (EDM) creation should note that Volans has recently completed what he calls an in-depth six-hour training course for MacProVideo.com on mixing and mastering electronic dance music in Logic Pro X music production software. He used the PCM Total Bundle extensively throughout this course, and for recent online features for Future Music and AskAudio.

Does the PCM Total Bundle live up to what Volans is accustomed to hearing from Lexicon’s industry-standard hardware? “I’ve worked in the studio with Lexicon gear for a long time. Having used the hardware I can say without a doubt that this plug-in is the real deal.” For Mo, Lexicon technology stands out from all other reverb units and plug-ins. “Lexicon manages to create stunning acoustic spaces that no other algorithmic processors seem to be able to touch. The richness of the reverb tails are legendary, and for good reason. I’ve found other processors that can do a good job – but Lexicon consistently nails the non-linear acoustic nature of real-world spaces.”

“Mo has been with Lexicon every step of his highly successful career. The diversity of his work and his consistent use of our plug-ins speaks to the ability of our reverbs to meet the requirements of any style of project he takes on. Furthermore, seeing him using Lexicon to teach a new generation of producers is the best compliment he can give us,” stated Noel Larson, Director of Marketing, HARMAN Signal Processing.

Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School Launches Next Generation of Producers with HARMAN’s JBL Professional M2 and LSR Studio Monitors, AKG Microphones and Lexicon Processors

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The first of its kind in the US, Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School in Nashville, Tennessee provides a unique opportunity to students interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment industry, offering concentrations in audio engineering, radio production, broadcasting and other media industries. Fulfilling a key initiative of the project, Pearl Cohn partnered with the Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy® Producers and Engineers (P&E) Wing in late 2012, to build a fully functioning, world-class recording studio, creating the opportunity for students to learn music production skills in a professional, hands-on environment. The new studio is equipped with HARMAN Professional’s newest JBL studio monitors, AKG headphones and microphones, Lexicon effects and Crown amplifiers.

The transformation of Pearl Cohn into the Nation’s first Entertainment Magnet High School was the personal project of Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, and Music Makes Us, a music education advocacy group, working to create a world-class learning environment for entertainment arts in Nashville.

Renowned studio designer Steven Durr donated his time and energy to develop the plans and oversee construction of the fully equipped studio. In a remarkable effort, producer/engineers Jeff Balding, Chuck Ainlay, in addition to Ben Fowler, Julian King, Nick Palladino, Terry Palmer, Matt Schlachter, Jon Randall Stewart, Durr and notable members of the Nashville music community rolled up their sleeves as a valuable subcommittee to put the facility together.

“Music education is so important to The Recording Academy, so when we were approached with the idea of Pearl-Cohn’s studio, we were proud to help in the development, contacting key associates in the music world to construct the first-of-its-kind high school facility,” says Susan Stewart, South Regional Director, The Recording Academy. “The studio became a reality with the help of the generous manufacturers and the community, who bonded together to provide students the hands-on environment they deserve to excel in the music industry.”

According to Sam Lorber, Instructional Designer at Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School, the institution was developed with the desire of engaging students with project-based lessons centered on the entertainment industry theme.

“It was the intention of the school from the start to provide professional-level education. Whether students are going to pursue an audio degree or a career immediately after graduating, they will have the problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills associated with a strong audio-based foundation,” Lorber stated. “With the P&E Wing and HARMAN, our vision of building the all-encompassing studio has far surpassed what we ever imagined was possible!”

The commissioning of the studio at Pearl-Cohn marks the first installation of the JBL M2 Master Reference Monitors powered by two Crown iTech 5000 HD power amplifiers. The M2, JBL’s flagship main monitor system leverages 7 patented technologies, JBL’s next generation transducers and its new Image Control Waveguide to deliver exceptional imaging, frequency response and high output to very broad space in the control room.

The control room also includes a 5.1 JBL LSR6300 system, while edit rooms are equipped with JBL LSR4300 studio monitor systems. AKG microphones and headphones include K271MKII and K240MKII headphones, D12 VR drum microphone, C214s, a C414 matched stereo set and three C451B condensers. Lexicon’s PCM96 Parallel Stereo and Surround Sound Reverb/effect processor was installed. Pearl-Cohn also installed three complete Lexicon plug-in packages.

Pearl-Cohn provides nine audio classes, which have become the most popular courses since the program was established. The studio/audio program has become the centerpiece of a curriculum that includes a student-run record label and publishing company, plus classes in studio techniques for musicians and singers. Students select a pathway—

choosing between careers as producers, managers, engineers, marketing agents, and more—and enroll in classes beginning with a survey of the music industry and progressing into the specific areas of each student’s interest.

“With a student-run record label, a state of the art studio and the support of music industry veterans, the stage is set at Pearl-Cohn for emerging talent to make their mark in the music world. The future of the industry lies within these kids. We are proud to partner with The Recording Academy in support of this project,” stated Mark Ureda, Vice President, Strategy and Technology, HARMAN Professional.

“We want our students to realize their dreams and potential. They enter the program with ambitions and we want them to graduate with the skills that will provide a stepping stone for a successful career in the audio industry and success in life,” Lorber continued. “Having a partner like HARMAN enables us to create a student-centered studio that rivals university and professional facilities. The sound emanating from our studio is superb and we can’t thank our partners enough for helping Pearl-Cohn inspire its students in this top-of-the-line learning environment.”

HARMAN Wins 2014 Technical GRAMMY® Award for Lexicon Audio Brand

STAMFORD, CT – December 12, 2013 -- Harman International (NYSE:HAR), the premium global audio and infotainment group, announced today that its Lexicon® brand has won a Technical GRAMMY® Award, which is presented to individuals and companies that have made contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced their Special Merit Awards earlier today. Recipients are determined by vote of The Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing Advisory Council and Chapter Committees, as well as The Academy's Trustees. This year’s Technical GRAMMY Award recognizes Lexicon’s contributions to the art and science of music recording and reproduction through innovation and excellence in product design. The Lexicon brand is in rare company: the only other such award is being presented posthumously to Emile Berliner, who invented and patented the “Gramophone” sound recording device in 1887.

Dinesh C. Paliwal, HARMAN Chairman, President and CEO; Blake Augsburger, President - Professional Division; and Noel Larson, Market Manager - Recording, Broadcast, Portable PA and Tour, will accept the award during the 56th Annual GRAMMY weekend festivities in Los Angeles January 24-26, 2014.

“We are deeply honored that yet another HARMAN brand has been recognized with a Technical GRAMMY Award,” said Paliwal. “Lexicon products have long been admired both by recording industry professionals and the discriminating audiences they serve, and we are proud to be the only audio systems company to have received this prestigious validation multiple times from the Recording Academy.”

Founded in 1971, Lexicon is one of the world's premier manufacturers of digital effects processing electronics and home theater systems. The company was among the first to produce commercially-available digital reverb systems which is used by 80 percent of recording artists, and was also an early pioneer in the hard disk recording sector. Lexicon also markets premium amplifiers for luxury cars, home theater and distributed audio applications, featuring the brand’s exclusive Logic 7® surround sound processing algorithm.

“Earning this GRAMMY is a testament to the remarkable passion that Harman puts into the science of recording and reproducing great sound,” said Augsburger. “I am very proud of the contribution that our Lexicon team has made in creating some of music’s most memorable impressions, and congratulate my colleagues on this milestone achievement.”

HARMAN is the only manufacturer to earn multiple Technical GRAMMY Awards. The Company’s AKG microphone and headphone brand was honored in 2010 for its more than 60 years of contributions to the art and science of sound. The JBL brand earned a Technical GRAMMY in 2005 for its state-of-the-art advancements in music recording, loudspeakers, and audio systems integration expertise. HARMAN Professional audio systems are used in the studio and on the road by leading performing artists, and are installed in thousands of performance, sporting and commercial venues worldwide.

TV and Film Composer Natalie Holt Gets Tooned Up With HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – British TV and film composer Natalie Holt knows how to make music that moves. A classically trained viola player and multi-instrumentalist, Holt currently writes the music for Tooned, a British animated TV series celebrating 50 years of Formula 1 auto racing. She received a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nomination for the score for the BBC TV series Great Expectations and has worked on major films including Hannibal Rising, Stardust, Dimensions, The Crew and many others. Recently, Holt added the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle reverb and effects plug-in to her home recording studio, and it’s shifting her demos and productions into high gear.

“I’ve recorded in many top studios in London and Europe in my role as a film and television composer,” Holt said, “and one of the major advantages of working in these facilities is having access to the Lexicon hardware and the Lexicon sound that is the standard in high-end recording studios. With the PCM Total Bundle, I can now get that sound in my home studio.”

Holt finds much to like about the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle and its selection of 14 reverb and effects plug-ins and hundreds of studio presets. “I will always want to record in studios with live musicians, but thanks to the PCM Total Bundle I now feel that a level of quality has been added to my demos when I present my work to directors. In fact, without any prompting from me, the directors of Tooned have noticed a big difference in the sound quality of the music from my most recent demos compared to the year before.”

In creating music, no matter what the situation Holt looks for products that enhance the quality of her work – and don’t stand in the way. “Since I come from a playing and performance background, I want equipment that fits into the process of making music without stopping the creative flow. So for me, the PCM Total Bundle is the perfect plug-in bundle and now that I’ve added it to my studio, I can’t imagine wanting to use anything else.”
Holt is currently finishing the second series of Tooned and writing an app with Oscar-winning visual effects company Framestore that explores music and the orchestra. She’s also writing songs with classical soprano singer Hayley Westenra.

“Lexicon reverbs and effects have always been standouts to me in professional recording studios, and now, having these sounds in a plug-in format has given my ability to get a good mix in my own studio a huge leap forward.”

“Its exciting to see what someone with Natalie’s talent is capable of when they are working with our Lexicon PCM Total Bundle. We appreciate knowing that with whatever ambitious project she takes on in the future that our plug-ins will be a key sonic tool in her creative process,” added Noel Larson, Market Manager, Portable PA, Tour and Recording, HARMAN Signal Processing.

Producer Steve Pageot And HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle Try Their Best to Make James Harden Sound Good

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Houston Rockets basketball star James Harden is one of the world’s most talented players. If only he was as talented as a singer. In his entertaining 2013 Foot Locker commercial, Harden spoofs the desire for sports figures to branch out into other areas – whether they should or not – by attempting to record an R&B single and torturing the engineer’s ears in the process. The wildly popular “Foot Locker – Harden Soul Featuring James Harden and Stephen Curry” commercial has received more than five million hits on YouTube and was mixed by artist and multi-platinum producer Steve Pageot with the help of HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle.

Pageot got the call to mix the spots from music composer Wendell Hanes, author of “The 30-30 Career: Making 30 Grand In 30 Seconds!” Pageot wrote the chapter “Mastering the Commercial Mix” for the book, and Hanes knew Pageot could do the job under the almost-impossible deadline constraints. “Wendell called me and told me he needed the mix done immediately and e-mailed me the Pro Tools files,” said Pageot. “I dropped what I was doing and a few hours later the mix was done.”

Pageot knew he could rely on the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle to get the sounds he needed quickly and dependably. For the mix, he first created an auxiliary stereo channel and inserted the plug-in’s “Simple Delay” and “Large Plate 1” presets, then tweaked the presets to his liking. The stereo sends from Harden’s vocal track were used to send the vocal signal to the auxiliary effect channel to simultaneously engage both effects.

“I continue to go back to the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle because of its rich, lush, pretty and unique sounds that I can dial up within seconds to take my mixes to the next level,” Pageot noted. “The goal of mixing a song is to make it sound like a masterpiece – but I had to keep Harden’s vocal mix close to raw and not to process it too much. Because the Lexicon reverbs sound so magical, with each preset I would dial up I kind of found myself going against what we had to do in the commercial!” Pageot wound up using some subtle effects processing throughout the track to give it its broadcast-worthy “finished” quality. “I truly feel that the subtle reverbs and delays I used made this commercial mix a hit.”

But even Pageot’s talents couldn’t get Harden to sing in tune or do anything about that paint-peeling voice. As Stephen Curry says to James Harden in the remix video: “You should probably not quit your day job!”

“We applaud Steve’s work on this very unique and entertaining project,” stated Noel Larson, Market Manager, Portable PA, Tour and Recording, HARMAN Signal Processing. “We are always excited to hear about new and exciting ways that talented producers like Steve are using Lexicon and this is certainly one of the more memorable projects I’ve heard about!”

DJ and Producer Mark Sixma Doesn’t Leave Home Without HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Dutch DJ and Producer Mark Sixma has several chart-topping tracks to his name and other major DJ’s including Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, and DJ Tiesto have played his music. Currently signed to Armada Music, an award-winning label in The Netherlands, Sixma is touring and playing some of the largest dance festivals in the world. When he is packing his sonic suitcase Sixma includes HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle reverb/effects plug-in.

“This bundle is my first Lexicon product. As I travel a lot, I usually prefer to work “in the box” as much as possible,” explained Sixma. “Carrying around lots of hardware on tour wasn’t an option for me. Luckily there’s no need for that with the PCM Total Bundle.”

Sixma quickly found a use for the PCM Native Reverb plug-ins on many of his different projects. “A lot of other reverb plug-ins out there sound like they just add an extra sound to an instrumental or vocal part, while the PCM Native Reverb plug-ins blend really well with the source. Which results in a very realistic and pleasant sound,” commented Sixma.

For Sixma the best aspect of Lexicon plugins is simply the quality of the sound. “I love how the plug-ins sound on vocals and traditional instruments like strings or piano. In fact I think they sound great on pretty much anything I throw at them.”

Additionally, the popular Dutch DJ relies on the Total Bundle’s cleverly programmed presets to quickly get the sound he is looking for, without impeding his creative process. Sixma also believes Lexicon surpasses other plug-ins with their capability to blend so well with the source.

Commenting on his favorite effect in the bundle, Sixma couldn’t decide, stating, “It’s hard to pick a favorite out of this bundle since all the plugins serve their purpose extremely well.”

Emerging Artist, Engineer and Producer ron [k] Chosen as Winner of HARMAN’s Lexicon Endorsee Quest 2013

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Recently crashing onto the music scene, emerging artist, engineer, and producer Ron Kelly, better known under his pseudonym ron [k], has finally garnered the exposure he’s needed to launch his career. Today, Kelly was recognized for his achievements as one of two winners of HARMAN’s Lexicon ‘Endorsee Quest 2013.’ The contest was designed to recognize individuals who have experienced success working with Lexicon. As a winner, Kelly will receive $1,000 in credit towards the purchase of additional Lexicon gear and will be featured on the Lexiconpro.com homepage.

Gravitating towards the world of engineering at an early age, in 2000 Kelly was first able to upgrade his home studio to the professional level with Lexicon’s Lexiverb reverb plug-in for ProTools and the PCM 81. Kelly proudly still loves and uses his PCM81 for intricate/otherworldly effects he crafts for his music. By 2005, his career had led him to enter the post-production world as a re-recording mixer and sound designer where he became well versed with the Lexicon 480L unit, using it on everything from film and television to theatrical trailers and video games. , Kelly’s recent single ‘Stripped’ will be featured in an upcoming film directed by Joel Soisson entitled ‘Cam2Cam.’

“I’ve done shoot outs with other similar high end pro audio reverb/multi-effects processors and not one of them touches the sonic quality that Lexicon produces or the unparalleled technology that is implemented in the design of all their products,” commented Kelly. “Lexicon pioneered digital reverb. They wrote the book on it, they know what they’re doing and they do it better than anyone else!”

“We wanted to show our support for artists like ron [k], so we decided to let our Facebook fans make their best pitch on why they should get an endorsement. We looked at a lot of fantastic submissions, but Ron’s passion really shined through. We are excited to give him a chance to show everyone what he can and does do!” stated Noel Larson Market Manager, Portable PA, Tour and Recording, HARMAN Signal Processing.

For his prize, Kelly has chosen the PCM Total Bundle reverb/effect plug-in. “Whether it's the PCM Total Bundle of plug-ins or Hardware, it will be put to immediate and excellent use for both studio and live effects processing,” explained Kelly.

The quality and features are everything when it comes to the gear Kelly selects. For an up and coming artist like Kelly, price is also an important factor in every purchase. “This is another place Lexicon excels. In my opinion all of their products are well worth more than the price tag they sell for,” said Kelly “Whether you're on a smaller budget or you're at a level of blank check spending privileges, Lexicon’s product line is going to deliver the best bang for your buck, hands down.”

Film Composer John Powell Loyal to HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – British-born, Los Angeles-based John Powell has been an A-list film composer since the 1990s for his ability to perfectly set the musical tone of a movie whether dramatic, playful or any mood in between. Powell has been a long-time Lexicon user, from the beginning of his career to his most recent use of the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle Plug-ins package His numerous credits include How to Train Your Dragon (1, 2 and 3), X-Men: The Last Stand, Happy Feet, The Bourne Identity and more than 50 other live-action and animated films.

“I’m much older than you’d think from looking at me,” Powell stated with typical humor. “When I first started working in recording studios the jewel in the crown for me was always the Lexicon reverb, way back to models like the 224, 224XL, 300, 480L and 960L. Back then many of these units were incredibly expensive and the idea of owning one was just a dream for me.”

Fast forward to 2013 and the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle Plug-ins package, which offers more than a dozen Lexicon reverbs and effects and hundreds of studio presets. Thanks to the PCM Total Bundle, the equivalent of dozens of rack-mount hardware units are now available to composers, musicians, engineers and producers at the click of a mouse.

“Being able to have as many Lexicon reverbs as I want, right there inside both my Logic and Pro Tools rigs is an extraordinary turn of events,” Powell noted. “Their reverbs always add the most musical sheen, that, to me, makes everything sound more euphonic and even harmonically richer.”

To say Powell is happy with the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle’s sounds, capabilities and flexibility would be an understatement as he asked, “Can someone please hand me a tissue?”

“To be lucky enough to work with someone like John Powell and to know we had a small hand in bringing his talent to the screen is a tremendous honor and privilege,” added Noel Larson, Market Manager, Portable PA, Tour and Recording for HARMAN Signal Processing.

The Lexicon PCM Total Bundle is designed to work with popular DAWs like Pro Tools and Logic, as well as with any other VST®, Audio Unit™ or RTAS®-compatible platform. Compatible with Windows® Vista, XP and 7 and Macintosh® computers, it offers 14 unique Lexicon reverbs and effects, and hundreds of finely crafted studio presets. Its intuitive user interface provides control of key parameters with a graphical real-time full-color display and flexible sonic customization capabilities.

Composer Nick Murray Finds Versatility with HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM Total Bundle

SANTA MONICA, California – Composer and Producer Nick Murray has had his music featured on numerous television shows and movie trailers, including Angels & Demons, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Looper and most recently The Lone Ranger. Murray is currently the CEO, Founder, and Executive Producer at switch., an artist driven trailer music production company based in Santa Monica, CA. Murray started on HARMAN’s Lexicon PCM 91 rack-mounted unit about five years ago and has since upgraded to the Lexicon PCM Total Bundle reverb/effects plug-in.

“I’ve been a Lexicon user for about five years now and quickly fell in love with the Lexicon sound,” explains Murray. “I do a lot of TV music, and in the TV world, you need to compose and produce music very fast. So I primarily use the plug-ins now because they allow me to work really fast and pull up any sound or flavor that I want without disrupting my workflow.”

Murray’s company, switch., just finished their fifth album, entitled “Synthetica,” that is meant for horror movie trailers. His composing style relies heavily on production, taking simple sounds and turning them into something unique that no one has heard before. “To achieve this I am constantly on the hunt for the latest production plug-ins and tools,” said Murray.

“As with any type of music gear, having multiple options provides more opportunities to create,” commented Murray. “One Lexicon preset I often went back to on this project is ‘Random Hall.’ It has that great Lexicon tail that has enough carry over from the original input and sounds great in the overall mix.”

The debate between hardware and software plugins, Murray believes, is dead. He loves the ability to have the hands-on feel of physically turning knobs on hardware, yet, he feels that hardware is a thing of the past and plug-ins are the future. As composers today have grown into producers, mix engineers, editors, and writers as well, they need quality sound that does not slow them down or impede the creative process.

Commenting on his choice of Lexicon over other plug-ins available, Murray said, “For me it’s about versatility. Lexicon is a legendary company in the professional audio world. As new companies pop up, I often explore those as well, but going back to tried and true sounds is what often sounds best. Having both options suits me best. I like how I know what it’s going to sound like. It’s an old friend that I can rely on!”

“We are lucky to work with someone of Nick’s caliber. It truly shows the versatility of our plug-ins when an artist can go from movie work to making a fantastic record using one software suite,” added Noel Larson, Market Manager for Recording, Tour and Portable PA at HARMAN Signal Processing.
