HARMAN’s Soundcraft Integrates Award-Winning UAD Plug-Ins From Universal Audio With Vi Series Consoles

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – At InfoComm 2014, HARMAN's Soundcraft is demonstrating the new Soundcraft® Realtime Rack--a library of over 70 award-winning UAD plug-ins from Universal Audio compatible with all Soundcraft Vi Series digital consoles. The Realtime Rack is a 1U (one rack unit) enclosure capable of processing up to 16 channels of a MADI stream, while additional units can be added for 32, 48 or 64 channels.

There are two versions of the Soundcraft® Realtime Rack: the Core comes preloaded with 14 classic HARMAN and UAD plug-ins, while the Ultimate comes fully loaded with 72 plug-ins including emulations of legendary analog hardware from industry-leading brands such as Studer, Lexicon, dbx, Neve, Manley and more.

The Realtime Rack software runs on a Mac computer providing all the control needed to insert UAD plug-ins on individual channels, auxiliary channels, and master busses as easily as real hardware. A comprehensive snapshot system allows total recall of all plug-ins and their settings. Tight network integration with Vi Series consoles ensures that all settings of the plug-ins are stored inside a Soundcraft Vi console. HARMAN’s Soundcraft Racks up Another Winner with New Si Performer 1 Digital Console

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – HARMAN's Soundcraft is showing the Si Performer 1—the most compact Si Performer console to date and can now control BSS Soundweb London preamps. The Si Performer features two option card slots available for ViSi Connect expansion and network cards, 80 inputs to mix, Soundcraft's patented FaderGlow™ and illuminated channel displays for instant mix status, plus the DMX interface and control (which allows simultaneous control of light and sound all from the console’s control surface)…and all available in a single 19-inch rackmount console.

The Si Performer’s two card slots offer unprecedented flexibility, enabling users to connect stageboxes, while providing the ability to connect to audio networks like Dante, CobraNet and BSS BLU Link, which provides easy connectivity with the dbx PMC Personal Monitor Controller via BLU Link.

The Si Performer 1 now comes with the V1.6 software update, offering several new features and improvements to Soundcraft Si Series consoles, including BSS Soundweb London preamp control, external clocking via option cards, selectable input solo modes, Select follow solo, pre-dynamics global bus send, knob bubble pin, and momentary on.

With the V1.6 software update, the Si Performer 1 has powerful new features specifically geared to improve performance for networked audio and monitoring applications. The V1.6 software update can be accessed from the Si Performer 1 page on the Soundcraft website.

The Si Performer has an input capacity of 80 audio inputs to mix on all models, while featuring the same mix power as the Performer 2 and 3 consoles but with 16 mic pres and 16 faders. It is a feature-packed audio console with fully parametric 4-band EQ as standard on all input channels, and as usual on Soundcraft’s digital range, BSS graphic EQs on all bus outputs. This is in addition to the already standard filters, gates, compressors and delays on all inputs and compressors and delays on all outputs, which when calculated delivers the equivalent of over 448 1u rack units of processing in a tiny footprint. Unlike many other digital consoles at this price point, all this processing is fully available all of the time, there are no compromises on the amount of DSP in use.

In addition, the Si Performer offers Soundcraft® FaderGlow, which enables faders to be color-coded via an LED strip alongside the fader to indicate its function or channel identification. The Si Performer 1 also features eight VCA groups and eight mute groups for easier control over its 80 inputs and 35 busses. Each channel on the surface features a custom LCD screen to show channel name, assignments, graphic EQ frequencies and DMX data, plus signal metering. The Si Performer and Si Expression ranges of Soundcraft consoles are also remotely controllable via the ViSi Remote iPad app. Lastly, the unique integration of a DMX512 port offers core lighting control, ideal for single (audio + lighting) operator application.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional VTX V20 Line Array Loudspeakers Gain Momentum

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Since its introduction earlier this year, HARMAN’s JBL Professional VTX V20 line array loudspeaker has been tremendously successful, as it has been adopted by some of the world’s most respected sound companies for some of the most widely-attended festivals, concerts and tours.

Billing itself as the Ultimate Celebration, the 3-day BottleRock Napa Valley Festival offered the best in music, wine, beer and gourmet food, accompanied by stellar sound courtesy of HARMAN Professional audio systems featuring JBL’s V20 line array loudspeakers and Crown I-Tech HD Series amplifiers. Camarillo, California-based full-service event production company Delicate Productions provided sound, light and video for the event.

“The VTX line arrays, subwoofers and loudspeakers proved to be exactly what was needed for the application,” said Delicate Productions’ President Jason Alt. “The VTX’s acoustic energy was focused in the right direction, with the correct directivity being delivered forward to the audience and with very little spill to the surrounding neighborhood.”

In addition, Crosby, Stills and Nash’s live sound company Sound Image has upped the performance of its tour sound rig this year, using a combination of JBL V20 line array elements and S25 suspendable, cardioid-arrayable subwoofers

“Typical CSN concert venues vary between sheds in the summer and theaters with a balcony,” notes Gary Sanguinet of Sound Image’s touring division. “Based on the size of the theater, on each side of the stage we’ll hang a split array of six V20 loudspeakers, one or two S25 subs, and six more V20 boxes on the bottom of each hang, and then place anywhere from six to eight additional S25 subs on the ground for additional low-frequency reinforcement.”

Sound contractor CTS Audio was one of the first adopters of JBL’s VTX Series line arrays and it’s safe to say they’ve liked what they heard—the company just purchased more than 100 more of them. CTS Audio added a total of 108 V20 line array loudspeakers to its inventory, plus another eight V25 loudspeakers and a bevy of VTX F Series F12 loudspeakers. While Franklin, Tennessee-based CTS Audio had used the V25 arrays at a number of high-profile events in the past year, the company put the V20 to the test for the first time at the recent 2014 K-Love Fan Awards, held at Nashville’s Opry Hotel and featuring the biggest names in Christian music including Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, Scott Stapp, Sidewalk Prophets and more than 40 other artists.

“Based on our experience with the VTX Series V25 and S28 subwoofers, we didn’t think we were going out on too much of a limb with the V20’s, which we were interested in for their smaller size and which would give us a more flexible loudspeaker inventory that would be adaptable to a wider variety of venues,” said Mike Taylor, Vice President at CTS Audio.

The VTX V20 loudspeaker features a true 3-way system design with proprietary D2 Dual Diaphragm Dual Voice Coil compression driver and Differential Drive™ low frequency transducer technology along with patent-pending ultra-linear motor technology employed for midrange components. In keeping with the philosophy of the VTX Series, the VTX V20 has extremely high power density with each line array element featuring two 2261H 10-inch Differential Drive™ woofers, four 2164H 4-inch ultra-linear midrange transducers and three of the new small-format D2415K Dual Drivers.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Delivers More Ceiling Speaker Options to Systems Integration Community with New Control 45C/T

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Adding to its incredibly successful Control® Contractor 40 Series, HARMAN’s JBL Professional is introducing the Control 45C/T coaxial ceiling loudspeaker. Along with providing high fidelity and smooth, wide bandwidth sound, this 2-way, 5.25-inch loudspeaker offers extremely consistent 120-degree broadband pattern control featuring JBL’s exclusive conical Radiation Boundary Integrator (RBI™) technology.

“The JBL Control Contractor 40 Series has been popular with systems integrators around the world, thanks to its combination of outstanding pattern control and exceptional sonic performance,” said Rick Kamlet, Senior Manager, Commercial Sound, JBL Professional. “The Control 45C/T loudspeaker shares these same qualities makes available for our customers a smaller full-range Control 40 Series model for their projects. We see it as an ideal solution for a wide variety of applications where a smaller size, smooth response and even coverage are desired.”

The Control 45C/T is a premium in-ceiling professional loudspeaker designed for environments that can benefit from extremely wide bandwidth and very consistent coverage from a speaker with a small footprint. Thanks to JBL’s RBI technology, the tweeter sound is well-controlled by a large waveguide, while the low-frequency sound projects through specially designed apertures in the RBI. This design allows for a seamless integration of coverage over a wide bandwidth from coaxially- mounted drivers. The result is that the sound character is extremely consistent throughout the listening space with little variation from location to location. In addition to providing better coverage of the listening area, the constant directivity coverage allows for the use of fewer loudspeakers compared to speakers that have less consistent coverage control.

The large backcan on the Control 45C/T, along with the low-frequency driver design, provides extended bass response for a warm full-bodied tone. The system’s 5.25-inch woofer features a polypropylene cone and pure butyl- rubber surround for long life. The coaxially mounted 0.75-inch soft dome features ferro-fluid cooling for enhanced power handling and reduced power compression.

Ideal for small and large projects alike, the Control 45C/T is switchable for use as either an 8-ohm low-impedance speaker, or as part of a 70V/100V distributed loudspeaker system.

HARMAN’s Soundcraft Vi3000 Ushers in the Next Generation of Digital Consoles

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – At InfoComm 2014, HARMAN’s Soundcraft is spotlighting its new Vi3000 ’all-in-one’ digital live sound console, offering a host of state-of-the-art features including the groundbreaking internal DSP Soundcraft® SpiderCore, a new industrial design, 96 channels to mix, onboard Dante compatibility as standard and much more in a very compact footprint.

“The Vi3000 joins the successful Vi1, Vi4 and Vi6 models and represents a massive leap forward in digital console design and functionality, while also keeping the best elements of its sister Vi consoles,” said Andy Brown, Senior Product Manager Vi Series. “We have a totally new internal core based on the highly successful Studer Vista 1 and a completely new, more efficiently designed surface running updated operating software. Compared to other consoles in its price range, the Vi3000 offers more input channels, more busses, more faders, and a user interface like no other. We are proud to say the Vi3000 is simply unparalleled in its category.”

The Vi3000 utilizes the new internal DSP SpiderCore with Soundcraft’s Vi Version 4.8 operating software, offering the new 3D Vistonics user interface while adding a fourth 24-channel fader layer to improve access to the console’s 96 input channels. The surface operation and layout is similar to other Vi Series consoles, providing a familiar feel while offering expanded functionality. The Vi3000 features upgraded microphone preamps and 40-bit Floating Point DSP processing for superlative sound quality.

The Soundcraft Vi3000 features an all-new appearance with efficiency enhancements to the control surface, 36 faders, 24 mono/stereo busses and a sweeping black screen panel with four Vistonics II™ touch screens with sleek, updated 3D graphics. Because the Vi3000 has four touchscreens, it’s the only console in its class that can be used by two engineers simultaneously.

“Visibility of parameters and easy access to them are the most important features a console can have,” Brown noted. “When something unexpected happens—as it always does in live sound—being able to see a lot of settings quickly is a massive advantage.”

The Soundcraft Vi3000 offers extensive rear panel connectivity. In addition to a full complement of analogue and digital inputs and outputs, the console provides MIDI, USB, Ethernet, DVI out, Dante and MADI record feed outputs, redundant power supply and other connections. The Vi3000 is the first Soundcraft console to incorporate a built-in Dante interface as standard, for seamless digital audio networking with Dante-enabled devices. Along with its greatly expanded functionality, the Vi3000 retains all the features that have made the Soundcraft Vi Series the consoles of choice for live sound engineers worldwide, such as FaderGlow™ illuminated faders that display different colours according to function, the ability to store and recall snapshots and cues, compatibility with Soundcraft’s ViSi app that allows remote control from an iPad, built-in Lexicon reverb/delays, dbx compression, effects and more.

HARMAN’s JBL Professional Adds to Groundbreaking EON600 Portable PA Series with EON610 and EON612 Loudspeakers

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Featuring advanced waveguide technology and the latest in transducer design, HARMAN’s JBL Professional is adding two new models to its EON600 Series portable PA loudspeakers: the EON610 10-inch 2-way loudspeaker and the EON612 12-inch 2-way loudspeaker. Along with the previously introduced EON615 loudspeaker, the EON610 and EON612 deliver high-end studio monitor quality sound in a rugged, lightweight design.

“Since its introduction in January, the EON615 has been extremely well-received and the addition of the EON610 and EON612 give today’s working musicians and sound providers modern, compact options for a portable sound system that offers truly unmatched sound quality,” said Andy Flint, Senior Manager, Portable PA Marketing, JBL Professional. “The EON600 Series represents a complete rethinking of how truly good an affordable, self-contained, portable PA system can be.”

The EON610 and EON612 feature built-in, 1000-watt power amplification, providing exceptional headroom for a variety of applications, from fixed PA to gigging bands. Custom JBL high- and low-frequency transducers deliver massive sound pressure levels with lower distortion throughout the frequency range.

The foundation of the EON600's performance is a breakthrough approach to waveguide design, solving the inherent beaminess of conventional speaker systems that causes them to have a different frequency response off-axis than on-axis. JBL engineers examined the radiation characteristics of the EON's high- and low-frequency drivers at 36 different points employing JBL's exclusive, state-of-the-art measurement techniques, then designed individual waveguides for both components that control the sound radiation at the high frequencies, the crossover point, and at the low frequencies.

Special fluting is designed into the structure that guides the frequencies through the full range of the system, resulting in consistent response throughout its entire coverage pattern. The quality and consistency between on-axis and off-axis response delivers uniform coverage and high intelligibility, which means the EON600's smooth, transparent sound is the same for the entire audience. These characteristics are the foundation of high-end studio monitor sound and are now available for the first time in a portable, affordable system.

Knowing that fine-tuning sound requires sophisticated yet convenient control, JBL engineers developed an iOS and Android supported interface to be paired with the Bluetooth Smart Ready 4.0 for controlling master volume, adjusting the 5-way, user-definable parametric EQ, and saving and recalling user presets. The interface controls EON’s onboard best-in-class 32-bit, 130 mHz, ultra-low power, audio DSP subsystem, so it's fast and efficient with superb audio quality. Four strategically placed handles allow easy handling, indexed feet allow secure stacking, transportation and storage, and extra-strong enclosures ensure rugged reliability, a hallmark of all JBL products.

HARMAN’s BSS Audio Introduces Soundweb Contrio Control And Media Server: Provides Advanced Control Capabilities for Professional Audio Networking

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Raising the performance threshold of large-scale professional audio networking in stadiums, arenas and large fixed installations, HARMAN’s BSS Audio today debuted its Soundweb Contrio system control server at InfoComm 2014. Now, integration professionals have the ability to design network architectures that place advanced system control, system management and media server functionality at a central point of the network and, in doing so, build systems that are more efficient, more practical and better performing. At just 1U rack space, the Soundweb Contrio server is a headless system controller device fully configurable with HiQnet Audio Architect™ software as part of the HARMAN Architectural Media Systems solution. Backwards-compatible with BSS Audio’s Soundweb London family, the Soundweb Contrio server is the first product within the new Soundweb Contrio family that will ultimately provide enhanced processing capability and greater flexibility for a variety of applications.

Advanced system control

The Soundweb Contrio server enables comprehensive system control logic configuration, both with a similar ‘wiring’ design environment as exposed in Audio Architect for existing Soundweb London devices, and a new open scripted Lua environment. The overall system is made even more efficient by running a logic system separate from the audio devices, which frees up processing capability and reduces the amount of hardware required.

System-wide presets can be configured at the parameter level, enabling a very precise level of detail in the creation of system reset functionality.

An event scheduler enables comprehensive preset recall – whether at a system level, a device level or at a parameter level.

The Soundweb Contrio server also provides a single network clock to provide an accurate synchronization of all HiQnet devices on the network.

System management

The server includes a system self-healing functionality. By monitoring the Ethernet switch and ports to which all devices are connected, a day-to-day operator need only replace a device on the same switch port and the server will automatically remotely configure all the addressing and configuration of the new device to match the old. In this way, it is not necessary to launch a software application to add replacement devices to the system.

The Soundweb Contrio server monitors all HiQnet devices and logs all warning or error conditions. The event logs of individual devices are also aggregated to provide a centralized monitoring location for the full system.

The server can send email information regarding the logged events, the degree of severity configurable within Audio Architect.

Media server

The Soundweb Contrio server supports both HARMAN BLU link and Audinate Dante™ audio transports in order that it can fit appropriately with a variety of system configurations.

In addition to its ability to recall system-wide presets, the event scheduler enables message playback over the audio network.

As with the Soundweb London series of products, the Soundweb Contrio server is configured within HiQnet Audio Architect – HARMAN’s common control software application for all devices in a sound system, from microphone to speaker. To facilitate system setup, HiQnet Audio Architect is unique in its graphical representation of the installed sound venue as the system design environment.

The Soundweb Contrio server runs an embedded version of HiQnet Audio Architect and is therefore immediately capable of providing integrators and end-users comprehensive management of all system presets, backup, storage of specific venue setup modes, event aggregation and scheduling.

“The Soundweb Contrio server provides audio professionals, systems integrators and end users with the best of both worlds,” said Iain Gregory, Market Manager, BSS Audio. “It provides enterprise-grade architecture and performance functionality coupled with a simple, intuitive user ecosystem comprising headless devices and wall controllers. The Soundweb Contrio server is the critical first step in enabling systems designers and their customers with exactly the right tools when they each need them.”

“By leveraging the power of HARMAN Audio Architect, and the vast number of devices from microphone to loudspeaker it now controls, we are providing the strongest possible foundation for the Soundweb Contrio server and delivering the most comprehensive audio system management platform available to date,” stated Adam Holladay, Market Manager, System Development and Integration Group, HARMAN Professional.

The Soundweb Contrio server is the first of the next generation of backward-compatible BSS Audio products and is designed to work in conjunction with BSS Audio’s new series of Soundweb Contrio wall controllers. The controllers are available in white or black and provide visual feedback for end-users to easily manage and adjust audio operation in a specific environment.

The headless appliance is just 1U rack space high and features a 500GB solid-state drive.

The Soundweb Contrio server will be available in September 2014.
